✧ I'm Roxie, and I love reading. This is excellent because I am an undergrad student of Literature and Linguistics (and I love it!), so a big part of my university life is reading tons and then some more. This blog is an assignment for my Poetry Survey Course, but I hope I can keep it up long afterwards!
✧ My story with poetry: I encountered it as a child, in the unassuming way most people do (through nursery rhymes that you realize were actually quite disturbing when you hear them once you grow up), but then never gave it much thought aside from song lyrics. When I finally had my first "proper" literary studies class I was assigned to write a poem analysis without any background instructions and then got told off for doing it wrong. I remember none of the poetry section of that class. Fast-forward two years later, I had a different literary studies class with a much freer and enjoyable approach to poetry and, just like that, I became interested in it. Now I wander about poetry sections at bookstores and pick up contemporary collections as well as collected/selected poems all the time! A lifelong affair was born and we are still going strong.
